Coding (Grades 2-4)
Ms. Kruse for Grades 2 - 4 in room 232
Class Description
Students will explore Scratch and code.org. Beginners, novice and advanced coders are all welcome to this class! Scratch is designed to introduce children to the basic steps of coding. Scratch helps young people learn to think creatively, reason systematically, and work collaboratively — essential skills for life in the 21st century. Scratch was created at MIT University and has become the standard for introducing children to programming. It teaches kids computer skills as well as emphasizes creativity and problem solving. This class will follow the Harvard Scratch curriculum for kids. As the students progress through the program, they will create interactive games and stories, improve their critical thinking and use independent problem solving skills to grow as "Coders”. More information on the curriculum can be found HERE Advanced students can work on Code.org to create additional interactive games or stories by improving their critical thinking and problem solving skills. Students can collaborate on projects for increased creativity while learning repeat-loops, conditionals, algorithms, functions and variables.
